Angel Valerio

Angel Valerio, a Honduran-born actor with deep roots in the Garifuna community, has quickly established himself as a force to be reckoned with in the film industry. Born in the Garifuna village of Triunfo de la Cruz, Honduras, Valerio’s journey began when his parents migrated to the United States. Growing up in Brooklyn and Yonkers, New York, he developed a passion for martial arts, which led to international competitions with the USA kickboxing team.

After moving to California, Valerio discovered a love for filmmaking. Inspired by a trip back to his homeland, where he was shocked to find many villagers unable to speak Garifuna, he embarked on a mission to create films that celebrated his heritage. With projects like “Wayunagu,” “Nirau,” “Wayunagu Part 2,” and the award-winning “Reversion” (available on Apple streaming), Valerio has showcased the Garifuna language and culture to audiences worldwide.

His latest film, “The Pugilist,” has garnered international recognition, with nominations for seven awards at the Toronto Nollywood International Film Festival, including the prestigious Best International Film award. As Valerio continues to make his mark on the film industry, his commitment to representing his Garifuna heritage and telling authentic stories remains inspiring.
