THE JOURNEY OF MARIA ENGEN-KANE FROM HONDURAS ðŸ‡ðŸ‡³ TO USA🇺🇸
Tell us about your journey
I Maria Engen-Kane was born, in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, Central America . My Father migrated to the United States of America for a better career opportunity. My Mother and I were left behind. Back then it took around 3 years for the immigration process to go through. I was 4.5 years old when my mother left, this left a huge sense of insecurity in me. ‘ I still feel the pain in that little girl’s heart ‘ I must go back and nurture her every so often. I know now, how to deal with ‘the child from within’! They returned for me 3 years later I was 7.5 years old.
I lived with my grandmother and my aunts. They had altars everywhere, they were super religious and celebrated every saint’s birthday so there was a party at the house almost every other week. I had no idea how many saints there were. This is where it all started, I would never be alone because God is always with me! This was tattooed to my forehead.
I know, I was a smart child I did not need to go to 1st grade, went directly to 2nd! I won an English course in kinder garden because I was the brightest in class!
I made the journey to Bethesda, Maryland by the age of 7.5 -8. I learned English within 6 months! My father was extremely disciplined and therefore, expected us to learn English ASAP. I got so good at speaking English, that when I returned to Honduras, I assisted all the teachers to teach the English language and I would get called back and would even get substitute jobs in Honduras. I continued learning, as much as I could, sports etc. and surrounding myself with positive, likeminded people.
When I was 12, I returned to Honduras to polish my Spanish. When was I asked if I wanted to be average/above average or superior? I responded superior. I already did things above average to my expectations. I went above the asking. I ran the extra mile, I always do what you would like for myself, think and do it better, it will pay off in the long run.
my father had a vision for me to become an attorney to know the law somehow. Because women in a 3rd world country did not have rights and he wanted me to know my rights.I had this in the back of my head
Education is everything, I did not listen to my father because He was such a dictator. And instead, I rebelled, I got married at 19 years old, graduated high school, went to college for a year, However, I returned and graduated as a single working mother.
One of my biggest successes has been my daughter Kristina, she is an amazing Artist she’s very private, so I will not go there. I have a wonderful granddaughter who is my pride and joy and of course, my great Husband whom I just Love. I have created this life on my own and by the grace of God, I Am so Grateful!! You too can manifest the life of your dreams
When I lived in Bethesda MD, I was an administrative Assistant and then we moved to Florida in 1992. I started working as a marketing administrator in the avionics industry, where I did very well. I moved on to being an executive Assistant to Jules Trump, being his right hand at Williams Island in Aventura Florida. I stayed with him for a couple of years until I had to leave due to the working hours because of my daughter’s care. Since Jules was a developer, he referred me to Premier Sales Group, which is the company that turned my life around, that’s when I became # 1 salesperson for 3 years in a row, selling pre-construction property for 13–16 projects in the Southeast Florida area. I started as the contract administrator/Office Manager and was promoted to be a Sales Associate. I remained with the company and was #1 sales agent for 3 years in a row. I was moved from sales project to sales project, I successfully commenced and took to contact 13 projects and assisted with 16 in total.
Unfortunately, in 2005 I had an accident and therefore had to take a break from Real Estate.
2. What advice would you give to young people who want to follow your footsteps?
I always visualized a beautiful life for myself. Good things come to those that remain positive throughout the years, regardless of my circumstances. Everything is going to be good, everything is working out for the best. Something I tell myself everyday no matter what, all is well in our world! Always try to give back to your community if you don’t have a specific project and/or charity. ‘Your Attitude is always to be positive, so your world will be positive’ this is how my mother would say it to me all the time. She is the bubbliest person in the world! Always looking at the bright side of life. It’s also your guidance counselors, your parents, the people around you that give you upbringing you see I had a very disciplined childhood. Therefore, whatever was presented to me was the rule of the house. I am now the caretaker for both my parents whom are 92 years old. I’ve worked my way up, I’ve worked extremely hard. My bosses in the past have called me ‘the bean counter’ so you can imagine how I can be towards myself, lol
I’ve have made Vision boards, they always worked for me and enjoyed making them, how I want things to look it’s quite enjoyable, It’s like decorating in your mind, very amusing and they do turn out if you follow and focus.
3. What do you do for your well-being?
I am always grateful for another day of life and always looking for projects and how to help people. In 2005, everything changed when I was involved in a serious accident that left me with severe nerve damage, an array of other life-altering injuries and ultimately, chronic pain. Seeking solutions for the extreme chronic pain, I endured a number of years heavily medicated without any relief. My frustration finally came to a tipping point when I realized that traditional Western medicine wasn’t going to provide me with any relief and worse, had stopped looking for innovative solutions.
Faced with unmanageable pain, I was determined to find a way to heal both body and soul and began studying a variety of integrative and holistic wellness practices. I discovered that healing begins from the inside out and after many years of living in chronic pain, now I am pain free. I am also committed to helping others break free from pain, without giving away their power to Western medicine or unnecessary medication so they are living life to the fullest. Using my previous career skills of investigation and research, I understand the transformation that can take place when someone has the tools and the environment to heal and thrive.
