THE QUEST OF A BEAUTIFUL COMEDIAN: Be mesmerized by Abyssinia Hammouri-Davis
Abyssinia Hammouri-Davis, aka Abyssinia The Great is a magnetic force of nature — big personality, quick wit, and absolutely unafraid to say what’s on her mind. With a rich cultural background — Black, Palestinian, and European — and an unorthodox upbringing that took her from the shores of Hawaii to the streets of Miami, Abyssinia has always lived in between worlds.
Her Mother was an expressive art therapist so she grew up performing on stages across the country– singing, dancing, and even performing Capoeira, the Brazilian martial art. The chaos of constantly shifting environments gave her one constant: comedy. Laughter became her survival, her language, her connection to the world.
Through art and humor, Abyssinia turns her unique lens on the world to build empathy and spark connection. Her work is rooted in the belief that laughter is medicine — and the world is desperately in need of a dose. “I never really knew who I was,” she says, “only who I needed to
be day by day — and that changed all the time.” That shapeshifting, deeply observant way of life now fuels her voice as a comedian, actor, and storyteller.
She’s performed at LA hotspots like the Sunset Rooftop, Jam In The Van, and the iconic Hotel Cafe. She’s starred in comedic shorts such as Stripwrecked, and BlackVeil, and showcased her artistry at the El Segundo Museum of Art, where she collaborated with Emmy and Academy
Award-winning filmmakers.
Her artistic vision? Reflect humanity in all its complex multitudes, creating and playing characters that everyone can relate to and feel seen by. Her dream gig? All the Rom Coms. “I believe love and laughter is why we’re all here in the first place. My goal is to share my gifts and unique perspective with the world, so that maybe we’ll feel a little more happy and a little less alone.” Her biggest inspirations growing up were Eddie Murphy, Sandra
Bullock, Jim Carrey, Melissa McCarthy, and Raven Symone.
