THE MOTHER-DAUGHTER RELATIONSHIP with Author Kat Wilson
- Tell us about your journey of your success.
My journey, well, From 2007 through 2008 I was in various levels of surgeries and treatment after my self-discovery of breast cancer. During those 2 years, I was married but single, and with a spouse absent for most of the important events in our daughter’s life, I had to be there for her even when I did not feel well. It was a double-edged sword. For me, because she did not have a good relationship with her father, but we bonded and became very close, I became the mediator between them which was a very exhausting and stressful position to be in. In 2010 we left, and I ended up raising a teenager on my own which led to numerous challenges. However, I decided to pursue my dream of making an impact on mothers and daughters who may have experienced similar situations. Therefore, my daughter became the inspiration for the book. It is my hope that what I’ve learned and experienced with my own daughter will help other mothers and daughters break through their own barriers and achieve the close relationship they desire.
2. What advice would you give to people who want to follow in your footsteps?
I would tell them to look inside themselves and ask what is their motivation? You must know what it is because being aware will help you stay focused when it doesn’t feel like the relationship is moving forward. I would also say it helps when intentions are set and in place for how you visualize your relationship with your mother or daughter to be.
3. What do you do for your well-being?
I take time for self-care. If you don’t take care of yourself, you cannot help others. I meditate and exercise on a daily basis. I spend quality time with my family who I am very close to which is helpful for my mental health. My sisters and I laugh a lot when we talk and I recommend this to everyone.
